The word "slacker" was invented for Lee, a layabout Londoner with a pretty, not to mention tolerant, American landlady named Kate. Lee spends a lot of time flitting from job to job and boozing at the local pub. When he begins to develop feelings for Kate, he realises that he needs to grow up and get his act together.

Outraged at Lee's apparent callousness for not telling her that Tim's Grandmother had died, Kate emotionally blackmails him into the clutches of an overpriced therapist. Overpriced, but not ineffectual, the therapist identifies Lee's love for Kate. But even when Tim tries it on with Kate at his own Grandmother's funeral, Lee finds it difficult to declare his feelings.
