ON NOW REPEAT

The 1924 Olympic Games, hosted by Paris had none of the hype and commercialism that they're known for now. They were still relatively innocent and the athletes who competed did so for very subtle and complex reasons. Britain sent two runners, young, lean, powerful men hungry for a different kind of recognition. Eric Liddell was a devout preacher who ran for his love of God. Harold Abrahams chose this venue to combat the scourge of anti-Semitism. When Liddell was faced with a choice of competing on the Sabbath or not competing at all, it was a no-brainer. But what about his commitment to his country and his team?

Directed by Hugh Hudson. Ian Charleson, Ben Cross, John Gielgud, Ian Holm, Nigel Havers, Nigel Davenport, Alice Krige, Patrick McGee

1981, United Kingdom, English, Sport, Drama, Movie
