In a world where 'pork' made you think of crackling, a young pig's natural courtesy became her saving grace. Like the rest of her family, Babe was destined for the meat cleaver and a short-lived career as a really delicious pork roast. What Farmer Hoggett saw in the piglet to stay his hand, not even he could say, but he found himself desperately looking for a way to keep the pig on a working farm where every animal had to earn its keep. His solution challenged all the notions of what a pig could do, and at the same time provided a new career path for subsequent generations of porkers. A sheep pig; who would have thought?
