The blistered world of the Kalahari Desert is a haunted realm. It is a place of magnificent contrast, of immense saltpans and grasslands and dry, dusty emptiness. But after prolonged drought, rain comes to this parched enigmatic land, and as if on cue, wildlife emerges from the bowels of the dried Boteti River from its entombed dormancy below an ancient lake, 1600 kms from the sea.
