Viane Rocher is a single mother trying to make a new life for herself in a small town. She has one overwhelming quality on her side; she's so full of the joy of life that even the dour small town cannot quench it. She also has one wonderful skill; she can make chocolate. When the town mayor's religious sensibilities are offended by the sight of her selling such wicked indulgences during Lent, he decides to shut her down. But Viane, a group of drifters, and a town woken out of its lethargy, have other ideas.
