Movie: Blood Diamond (2006)
Conflict diamonds - or blood diamonds - are diamonds that are mined in a war zone and used to finance the continuation of the war. They are so valuable that locals are often kidnapped and forced to work in the mines. This is what happened to a fisherman called Solomon whose only ambition was to educate his children. Just as he discovers a rare pink diamond, the mine is invaded by the police and he is imprisoned. Whilst in gaol, he forms an alliance with an ex-mercenary called Archer who agrees to help him recover both the diamond and his family.
