In this series, we chart Flying Scotsman's remarkable story - spanning 2.5 million miles over 94 years. Flying Scotsman heralded the golden age of steam - smashing records by reaching the 100mph mark, whilst at the same time, ushering in the trend for luxury rail travel. But as diesel trains emerged, the locomotive's role was diminished, and the nationalised British Rail planned to ditch the relic steamer in the 60s.
