It's 2046 and humanity's ecological chickens have come home to roost. The Votans have made themselves very much at home on a newly terraformed planet Earth. Joshua Nolan and his adopted daughter Irisa arrive at Defiance where humans and Votans share a fretful peace. But a local power struggle hints at a far less peaceful future.
